Remarks | I was lying down on the ground watching the geminid meteor shower (the first meteor shower I've seen, though I've seen meteors before). I rotated on the ground at various angles every few minutes or so, so I kind of lost track of exactly the direction I was looking at the time I saw the meteor/fireball, but I think it was roughly in the southeasterly direction. I had been out for about an hour and had seen about 15 meteors prior to the fireball. Not sure about the magnitude, but definitely much bigger and brighter than Venus; not as big as the moon (maybe a third of that size), but because the light was so concentrated, I'm guessing it was brighter than the moon (at least per unit area), but I'm less confident about that. |
