Note that we live on a lake. My impression is that the fireball could have gone into the lake given its trajectory. There are mountains that border the lake in the direction of the fireball path and the trajectory was below the height of the mountains in its downward trajectory. I have not been able to see any disturbed areas on the mountainside using binoculars and a spotting scope. Viewing distance was about a quarter mile. The mountainside was partially covered with snow at the time of the sighting. A state patrolman responded to my call about the fireball and investigated the area that night without seeing anything. My view of the trajectory towards the lake was blocked so that I could not confirm an impact but the general direction, size and apparent closeness (I would estimate at least 2-5 ft at least in diameter) that impact did occur nearby.
