My back was to the sky where this appeared and I was so startled I jumped when the patio and yard suddenly lit up as if Klieg lights just went on or multiple vehicles all turned their headlights on. It was if a full moon burst out of the clouds far faster than that ever happens, in a flash. I spun around to see a fiercely glowing deep red object, preceded or surrounded as if by a near-blinding white halo of sparks being thrown off, with a brilliant long tail of brilliant bright green quickly-decaying sparks, whizz thru the air seemingly from the south/SSE and toward the north/NNE. It seemed extremely near unless it was very large, 100'-500' depending on size. At first I thought it was a fireworks rocket, it was so colorful, but the speed and trajectory didn't seem possible for a fireworks given the trees and distance (any possible launch site would easily be 1/2 mile away). I have seen many shooting stars and one fairly near meteorite in my life, but this was by far the closest. For what it's worth I am a pilot. |
